There are over 500 different Aboriginal Nations or Countries across Australia. Inside these Countries different languages were spoken, had different
protocols and customs, food, kinship, lores and law. Country is a term often used by Aboriginal people to describe the lands, waterways and seas to which they are connected. The term contains complex ideas about Aboriginal law, place, custom, language, spiritual belief, cultural practice, material sustenance, family and identity. It includes all living things as well and incorporates people, plants and animal. It embraces the seasons, stories and creation spirits. “Country” is both a place of belonging and a way of believing.
